Contrary was originally created by former members of the Cologne band "Dead End Past". After the break up of "Dead End Past" in the summer of 2002, three of the members (Patrick Fisher, Guido Diefenbach, and Ömer Hamzaoglu) decided to continue making music. With a new fourth man (Ulf Diefenbach), they formed the band Contrary. In the summer of 2003, guitarist Guido Diefenbach left the band because of job-related reasons and was replaced by Mark Guy. In may 2004, bass player Ulf Diefenbach was unable to continue playing because of time constraints, and was replaced by Jonas Sprenger.
Each band member has stage and studio experience, and brings his own individual talents to the group. Together they combine those talents, as well as each musician''s interests when collaborating on songwriting and production.
The Contrary sound is a mix of "Death" and "Thrash Metal", sometimes fine and technical, other times easy and approachable. Different styles are used in both instrumental and vocal arrangements to create a wide musical spectrum. As a live act, Contrary always surprises their audience by combining their love for playing live with their professionalism and "know how".
In January 2004, Contrary began recording their first CD "Constructing Chaos" and completed production at the Stonehenge Studio in Bonn in December 2004. With ten tracks and a total playing time of 31 minutes, "Constructing Chaos" offers an excellent "first taste" of Contrary''s diverse and varied style.
Currently Contrary is looking for more gigs to gain exposure and expand their audience. They are also working on different distribution means for "Constructing Chaos" so that their music can reach more people.
