jazzreloaded press quotes:
âThe big surprise of this eveningâs BOF concert on the a38 boat was bass player, Darren Taylor. Not an easy task to stand out in a talent-packed, star-studded band, backing up none other than Britainâs energetic saxophone sensation Courtney Pine, but Darren caught my ears with a steady rhythm that thrummed along keeping pace with Pineâs saxophone like a cyclist drafting his team mateâ

âThe music itself was infectious and really got the people going. I have to admit that I have a soft spot for the double bass. It's a big instrument and its deep sound is an anchor to the free flow of other instruments. In the traditions of old, each musician had a solo and they were all great. Tottenham born Darren Taylor stood out for me and his solo was fantastically enjoyableâ
Nic Baddeley, BBC Gloucestershire
âIt was all about Darren Taylor's double bass solo's... wow!â
Adam Rock, https://www.tradebit.com
âdigging deep into the groove. â¦.the phenomenal bassist Darren Taylorâ¦For getting the reluctant to their feet, it was a triumphâ
Keith Shadwick, Daily Mail
Jazz changes: Quotes and observations from Monty:
The future is not promised. Jazz is the music which for me recognises and encompasses this the best. Jazz is the selection of musical relevance over musical truth. To my mind, all expressions are musically true. But relating to other people is the skill that the true jazz musician seeks to develop. And because relationships change, the music changes. At a moment's notice. Jazz changes.
In its time the saxophone was rejected by the musical mainstream - its tone was not suited to the classical ensemble. Making something from societyâs cast offs is, I would say, a part of the essence of jazz. When People say that jazz should be one thing or another, maybe they forget that Miles, Monk, Coltrane, they only played the music of the time. When the technology developed, Miles went electric. I imagine Wes played acoustic until the electric was invented. And back in the day Cab and Diz and Duke used to play to hundreds in nightclubs and dancehalls, making music for your body as well as your mind. So why does it have to be just in the concert hall today? Jazz is not about building institutions. Jazz changes.
