Details:
Chronicles: Bill and Joe is a journal of sorts…a collection of recordings that document moments in these two character’s lives, their relationships to themselves, one another and to their (our) world. They seem to live, for the time being, in San Francisco…Sunset district….those nearly treeless expanses of stucco homes and telegraph poles and wires, where the fog and fresh air both chill one to an early death, and cleanse one’s mind of the scrappy (maybe just crappy) remnants of the daily grind.
These five pieces comprise Volume 1; hopefully the first of many, so if you find these entertaining please check in from time to time to hear any further adventures.
At some point I will make the songs available as separate entities from the dialogues so that people who are familiar with the dialogues won’t have to fiddle with fast forwarding through 10 minutes of talking and falling rain, or the sounds of Joe making a cup of tea to hear a tune they like. I will probably title those as Bill and Joe: Songs Alone, or something to that effect.
These old guys are a mystery to me. They pop up in my dreams, or when I am just walking down the street…they have stuff to say, and it isn’t how I would necessarily say it, or even something I would know to say. I try and capture the sense of them the best I can. I know that sounds a bit “writerly “ or whatever, but ask anybody who writes…kind of a weird process...like having strangers (at first) in your head; one hopes that they turn out to be of a good sort.
SO! O.K.! If you’ve read this far, and are the sort who likes radio drama and acoustic music, which is the main form that I hear Bill and Joe employing to make their way into the world, don’t skip the first three pieces as they contain bits of background info that serve to introduce one of the main players in their corner of the world, as well as giving a bit of breadth to the sense of who Bill and Joe themselves might be…couple of gruff but kind-hearted old guys, just getting by ( like TOO many of us) in these interesting times. Enjoy! C.
I would like to …well…I DO express my thanks to my friend, Jeff Stratton, whos communications with me regarding various humorous, weird and unfortunate facets of modern life were key to priming me to receive Bill and Joe in the first place,
and who continues to provide support and crucial feedback to this endeavor.
