Recording for Mary Rose Obsession''s debut album "Chains To Nowhere" began on May 13th 2009 and was originally set to be a 13 track album. The albums lead track and first single, “She Used To," was not written at this time.
In late June 2009 while the songs were still in editing, at a party with his band mates guitarist Christopher had shown the song he was working on to drummer and brother Matthew and singer Daniel Grandinetti on an acoustic guitar but the song was quickly blown off by them. Sure of the song and a little more time spent working on it, Christopher brought it out again during a full practice with a more solid structure, opening wah riff and a drum beat in mind to give the song a 60’s hipster feel to an already hard hitting chorus. With the added retro sounding guitar lead given by Daniel and a grooving bass line provided by David, the song was decided on the jam floor to be the first single off the record. The band went back into the studio mid July and recorded the song in one day.
