Smoochy has been in music since he was 14 years old. He has played for many artist such as Carl Perkins, Billy lee Rily, Ace Cannon and a lot of others from the Sun Record Days. He was one of the Staff piano players at Sun during the fifties.
He later went to Stax where he recorded his first million seller record with a group called the Mar-Keys the song was "Last Night." In 1961 he traveled with the Mar-keys playing several show dates all over the US. In 1980 He played the piano for George Jones for about a year. He later became piano player with a group called The Sun Rhythm Section a group made up of musicians and artist from Sun Records. The group included Sonny Burgess, Paul Burlison, Stan Kesler, D.J. Fontana Marcus Vanstory and of course Jerry Lee "Smoochy" Smith. They performed for the Smithsonnian folk life vestival, and then toured all over the United States and Canada playing festivals and stage shows. In addition to extensive European and Scandinavian tours they were sent by the United States information agency on a tour of the Mid-East where they performed in Khartoum ( Sudan ), Dhaka ( Bangladash ), Kuwait City, Amman (Jordan) and Tunis (Tunisia ). In "Smoochys" travels he also had the pleasure of working with Chuck Berry, Dion, Paul Anka and many many more. He write''s many songs and music. Has is own recording studio and publishing company. He is at present formed a group called The Smoochy Smith Trio who has a new CD that will be released the first of August called UP IN LIGHTS watch for this one on CD Baby soon.
