I have always loved to sing. For fun. I''m a comedian, and in a recent show, I worked with Margrit Eichler of True Margrit to create some songs. Professionally, I always maintained a clear idea that my goal was to make people laugh... and when I realized how fun it was to sing and make music with Margrit, I wanted to keep doing it. I had written a song for a man I was falling in love with--that magical once or twice in a lifetime love--and the love affair ended, but the sense of possibility, the sense of how beautiful life is stayed with me. So I played that song to Margrit one day, having written the melody and the initial chord structure on my ukulele. She is the Elvis Costello to my Squeeze. We changed it from a straight rock song to a sort of swinging, funky beat, she added some really neat extra chords, and we created this delightful pop rock song that I hope conveys the depth of shining intensity I have when I open my heart and feel in love with the world. Also, it turns at the end and reminds me that it''s really about loving oneself.
