Poor Genetic Material have made a name for themselves in the prog- and artrock scene with their albums Summerland (2001), Leap into Fall (2002), and Winter’s Edge (2003) on all of which Alias Eye-singer Philip Griffiths left his distinctive mark. After the highly successful Winter’s Edge-album changes in organization and line-up led to a delay in the songwriting process, and the band used this break to prepare Free to Random (2005) for release – a collection of pieces from an early phase in PGM’s history when they were exclusively playing instrumental ’soundscape’ music.
Last summer, with the move to their new studio complete and new drummer Dominik Steinbacher on board, the band started recording the fourth part of their seasons cycle.
Spring Tidings is sure to mark another big step for Poor Genetic Material, who already have established themselves as one of Germany’s most versatile prog-bands. The new drummer’s influence is unmistakable: the calm and densely atmospheric passages that have come to be recognized as a hallmark of PGM’s unique style are now complemented by more powerful and dynamic elements.
