Diana Clark's debut EP âBreathe into Timeâ is a collection of songs reflecting the spirit of a life lived from the Australian outback to the culturally rich cities of Melbourne (Aust) & Rio de Janeiro.
From a new generation of outstanding and innovative contemporary jazz & folk singers, Diana embraces the worldâs music with imagination and warmth. She received arts-critics awards for her first two albums with acclaimed guitarist Doug de Vries (ââ¦a knot in the woodâ¦â â top 10 Australian Albums for 2003 â Rhythms Magazine, and ââ¦three shadows of blueâ¦â â top 10 Albums for 2005 â Cadence Magazine, USA).
Diana, a co-founder of the Melbourne-based award-winning vocal/percussion group AKASA (Best World/Folk Album 2000 CARA, USA), has a Bachelor of Music Performance (Improvisation) from the Victorian College of the Arts (University of Melbourne). Her Albums and concerts with Doug de Vries are widely appreciated for their beauty and elegance.
Clark, a finalist in the Australian (Wangaratta) and International jazz vocal competitions, won fourth place in the 2002 International Jazzconnect Vocal Competition with her version and English lyric of classic afro-samba Canto de Ossanha (Baden Powell & Vinicius de Moraes).
Highly regarded across Australia and the Pacific for her conducting work with community choirs, Diana created, directed and recorded Australiaâs first Brazilian choir Borboleta and has published the first choral book of Brazilian vocal scores in Australia.
She is the recipient of Australian Arts Council (Gov) Grants including a professional development study in Portugal with European jazz vocalist/lyricist Maria Joao and two study trips to Brazil, learning to sing in fluent Portuguese.
In 2006, Diana released her debut solo recording âBreathe Into Timeâ â The CD leads with the metaphysical âBreathe into Timeâ, winner of the open section composition award, 2006 Eltham Jazz & Blues Heritage Festival.
Itâs an EP of six original songs (in her mother tongue, English) recorded with jazz musicians including three generations of Melbourneâs most distinctive pianists; Bob Sedergreen, Joe Chindamo & Will Poskit with a rhythm section of guitar, bass, drums and percussion.
"Clark's warm vocals can soften the melancholy of a yearning lyric, or coax the vibrant rhythms around her into a dance of celebration."
Jessica Nicholas, the Age, Melb, Australia.
ââ¦Her voice is so intimate it could make you blush.â

The opening notes of some CDs mesmerise you; you can tell youâre going to enjoy the whole experience. This is one such example.
The six tracks of Diana Clarkâs first solo recording â an EP of original songs â take the listener on inner and outer journeys across a world and jazz influenced landscape. There are city songs here ⦠and rural landscapes (âbird songs right outside the doorâ). There are sounds influenced by Brazilian music and by Australian diversity.
These are also songs about healing and support and respect. The themes of these songs reflect Diâs experiences, interests and hopes. She dedicates the EP to âanyone struggling with anxiety and depressionâ and offers the music as âa place of solace, even if for only a momentâ. The voice and the warmth she brings to that promise and dedication enable her to translate grand ideas into great emotions.
Supported by a strong line-up of Melbourne musicians who intersect jazz and world genres â Doug de Vries, Joe Chindamo, Bob Sedergreen, Will Poskitt, Simon Starr, David Beck, Pay Pereira and Irene Vela â Diana presents an apparently laid-back CD that effortlessly insinuates its way into your heart and head.
