Dre'' Barnes, an up and coming pianist, has been steadily making a name for himself in the world of Jazz. The Philadelphia born pianist has studied at William Paterson University and at Rutgers University''s Mason Gross School of the Arts. He was under the tutelege of Jazz Masters John Hicks, Kenny Barron and Mulgrew Miller. Barnes cites pianists Oscar Peterson, Herbie Hancock, Cedar Walton and McCoy Tyner as major influences. Dre has worked and played with Joel Fraham, Cleve Guyton, Bill Saxton, Santi DiBriano, and vocalists Sandra Sulliman, Kathy Farmer and many others.
Dre performs a wide variety of material from Jazz standards to his original compositions. He boasts a strong technique, a lyrical swing, and a large orchestral sound.
Dre currently leads his group and can be heard in several venues around the New York metropolitan area. Barnes'' trio includes the always swinging Detroit born Jim Hankins on Bass, who has played with Kirk Lightsey, Sonny Stitt, Betty Carter, Donald Byrd and Lou Rawls amongst others, and the grooving dependable drummer Indiana born Clyde Alford who has played with Eric Alexander, Bennie Golson and Dave Valentin.
