Damian Clarke is the founder of the British rock-folk band PRESSGANG. For the past few years he has been building a solo career with his new instruments, the hammered dulcimer (hackbrett) and hurdy gurdy (drehleier), pursuing his love of traditional songs and tunes from all over Europe such as Platt Deutsch or Breton. He is keen to promote folk songs in their original local languages. Many of the songs are from huddreds of years ago, even medieval.
Folk Roots magazine said of The River Wherever: "A sparkling programme of refreshing'' wandering-minstrel'' takes on trad songs (English, Breton, Plat Deutsch - all sung in the original language), interspersed with tunes. Accompanying himself on hurdy-gurdy or hammer dulcimer, with support from Marco (Lack Of Limits) and Pressgang colleagues, Damian''s come up with an inspiring and enjoyable collection."
Likewise four stars in Rock n Reel magazine.
And FOLKER, the biggest folk magazine in Germany, has also spoken warmly about the CD, calling it a "charming musical miracle-bag"...and its getting played on Northern German radios. Can''t wait to go back and play there again
