Even though Janine is known as a ''jazz'' vocalist, in honor of her beloved mother, who was a devout Catholic, Janine has decided to record a CD of beautiful spiritual and inspirational music.
Janine Alondres is an award-winning recording artist who sings smooth jazz and contemporary jazz standards. Her debut album, "Dreams Do Come True" (2004) was named "Adult Contemporary Album of the Year" by the Hawaii Music Awards, and received a nomination as "Jazz Album of the Year" by Hawaiian Na Hoku Hanohano Music.
Ms. Alondres studied opera at California State University/Long Beach, and quickly fell for jazz standards performed by the musical group, Voce, while attending Cal State. Ms. Alondres moved to New York City in 1992 to further her musical aspirations. It was a fortuitous move. She was accepted to participate in a cabaret symposium at the Eugene O’Neil Theatre Center in Waterford, Conn., where she studied with such well-respected performers such as Margaret Whiting, Julie Wilson and Anne Francine.
The work of Ella Fitzgerald, Diane Schurr, Dionne Warwick, Lena Horne, Barbra Streisand, Ann Hampton Callaway, Diana Krall, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, and Whitney Houston are among Ms. Alondres'' influences and inspirations.
Ms. Alondres currently performs occasionally throughout Manhattan in restaurant venues.
The San Francisco native, born to Hawaiian parents, resides in New York City.
