"Silence the clutter of a lifetime past / and in this moment blessed be."-title track, Heart to Sky (2010)

Emerging from a secluded little island off the West Coast of Canada, Marley Daemon is a new breed of folk songstress. With a heart-flooding sound and unusually captivating lyrics she is sweeping onto the modern music scene like a Pacific storm, answering for us the question, “What kind of music would come out of a girl raised away from main-stream society and institutionalized schooling, surrounded only by musical instruments, overflowing bookshelves, and thriving wilderness?”
After playing in 5 different bands since the age of 14, studying Indian classical music at an elite school in Varanasi, and recently earning a degree from the Victoria Conservatory of Music (where she was awarded the Katarina Composition Scholarship for best up-and-coming young composer), the gifted singer/pianist/guitarist has honed a distinctive voice that swells loose and easily through her courageously original repertoire – a repertoire that, stylistically, one reviewer can only sum up as “somewhere near the crossroads of new-generation-neo-folk, experimental-old-time, and melodic-eastern-post-bop-soul, [with] a fascinating sense of melodic construction, adventurous harmonies and forms, and a delectable pop sensibility.” Drawing on a strange array of cross-cultural artistic influences (jazz, Celtic, magic literature, Wicca, post-modern philosophy and Indian Classical to name a few) Daemon sings in vivid poetry to the deepest questions surrounding human identity. The result is an impassioned tapestry that ignites the visual imagination while uncovering new emotions in the listener.
Since the release of her debut album, Heart to Sky in 2010, Daemon is quickly finding a home in the popular Canadian music scene. Besides receiving attention from television and radio media, Daemon has toured the country twice, stunning audiences at such events as the Victoria Jazz Festival, Campbell Bay Music Fest and the infamous ArtsWells Music Festival in Wells B.C.
Recorded and co-produced by engineer/musician Adrian Dolan (from Canada''s renowned folk band The Bills), Heart to Sky is made up of a talented cast of notable west-coast musicians Oliver Swain (upright bass), Kelby MacNayr (drums), Daniel Lapp (trumpet), Taylor Ashton and Adam Iredale-Gray of Fish and Bird (banjo and violin, vocals) among many others. Heart to Sky also features two elaborate string arrangements by Dolan, on which he plays violin, viola and mandola.
Pushing bravely into unexplored territory, Heart to Sky continues to open doors for Marley Daemon. As Adrian Dolan puts it, “She is at the forefront of an exciting generation of young musicians poised to rejuvenate the folk genre as we know it, as well as put the Canadian west coast on the map as a hot-bed for intelligent and vastly original music.”
