A lyrical voyage across a diverse collection of sonic landscapes inspired by Australia. Timelessness soaked up through feet and reinterpreted by hand and voice. Oh, and there might be one cheeky love song in there for good measure.

Shroud

Singer/songwriter Simon Ling and fellow songwriters Philip Pares and Rex Renolds present an eclectic collection with a distinct Australian atmosphere. Philip and Simon collaborated under the moniker ''Dream In Green'' in the early nineties and recorded Grandad, Undercurrent, Lookback, Summerland, The Song With No Name and Lookfurtherback for local release on cassette right about the time when cassettes became redundant. They both look forward to the new media format that must surely supercede digital following this release if their past effort was anything to go by.

Later the same decade, Simon teamed up with Brisbane guitarist Rex Renolds and they recorded Rite of Passage as https://www.tradebit.comh. Cinders was a solo effort by Simon, recorded at Carnarvon Gorge, where he now lives and works.

Philip and Simon''s collaboration sought to pare back production, to leave plenty of space around musical and lyrical elements. Both versions of Lookback, Grandad, The Song With No Name and Summerland are fine examples of their intent. Underlying, or complementing, this concept of open space is the influence of Australian landscapes and environments evident in Simon''s songwriting.

Cinders: Naive love song in a pop wrapping.

Rite of Passage: An introspective piece with lush 12 string textures from Rex.

Grandad: Childhood and adult memories in a bittersweet song for someone gone.

Undercurrent: History''s punctuated equilibrium graphed sonically.

Summerland: Humid air and heavy rain in Australia''s Northern Territory.

Lookback: Phil''s sparse keyboards draw eyes to the past.

The Song With No Name: A lament for Australia''s environment.

Lookfurtherback: Space up the wazoo as Phil and Simon revisit the past.
