Ringtones just may be the new, perfect 21st Century Art Form in our fast-paced, 2-second soundbyte, cellphone-obsessed world!
Composers are saying, “so I can’t get you to sit down in the concert hall for a 25-minute symphony, how about if I get a catchy little song in your head, one that you can hear every time someone gives you a ring?”
Crafting an original, effective musical message in the timespan of 22 seconds or less can tax a composer’s creativity. The challenge is to hit the mark dead on - to resonate with a particular mood or character, and do it all within a constricted time frame. Nicer yet is if the composition in miniature proves musically satisfying. A tall order for sure, but I hope at least this anthology makes for fun listening. And who knows, maybe one of these Ringtones just might be the perfect gift for yourself or someone you know!
