2010 was a rollercoaster year for Attack of the Mannequins...
Starting off in fine form with a milestone trip to Los Angeles where they made some serious inroads into the notoriously tough L.A. scene, which culminated in the band headlining the famous Viper Room on the Sunset Strip and also playing at Bar Sinister.
The band returned home to Melbourne in May, enlisted a new bass player and capitalized on the momentum from L.A. by playing around Melbourne’s clubs and pubs regularly to increasing crowd numbers. During this time AOTM headlined the first ''Cherryween'' event at Melbourne’s famed rock venue ''Cherry Bar''. In September the band recorded their debut single ''Fear and Self Loathing'', an explosive track showcasing the bands Industrial Punk Rock sound.
Tragedy struck in early November when the bands manager, Jackson and Harrison’s father and former ''Models'' bassist James Freud suddenly passed away. Determined to keep going, the band continued on gigging relentlessly. During this period AOTM played a show at the Palace Theatre in Melbourne and paid tribute to James by playing Models hit ''Out of Mind Out of Sight'' with guests Sean Kelly (Models) and Kate Ceberano. A video of this performance was captured and went viral with 1000 views in the first hour of being uploaded.
In late November AOTM supported Blondie at their only Australian club show (which was a sellout) and garnered rave reviews.
2011 looks like it’s shaping up to be a big year with interstate tours, support slots and more gigging in the pipelines as the band continues to make their mark on the Australian music scene.
