-Since meeting at a local Wood Whittling Convention in January of 2010, the newly formed WeatherVanes have created a quite a stir in the DC area music scene. The WeatherVanes music is not easily categorized but has been described as the audio equivalent to a piece of strawberry cheese cake at midnight. The Vanes draw on a variety of musical influences but do not like to be compared to anyone, in case of the unlikely event that Tom Petty, Ryan Adams, Josh Ritter, or Glen Hansard hear about the comparison and want to kick the folk-rockers asses (they are lovers not fighters). The guys are easy going, comfortable with their sexuality and simply enjoy creating and playing music that is fun and meaningful to a crowd of 3 or more.
- The "Making Strangers" EP is a sometimes electric, sometimes acoustic mix of blues, rock, folk, alt-country, and americana.... being described as "Folk ''n'' Roll" fits like a nice pair of boots. The 5 song album is very well produced by Steve Collins of Troubadour Studio in Austin Texas. Each song takes the listener on journey from getting lost in North Carolina, to warming up on a cold night, running away with Snow White, or having something to say.... about love lost and love found. The 5 song EP covers a lot of ground, and covers it very well with solid musicianship, arrangements, hooks, melodies, lyrics and vocals.
