On the live set recorded here, we decided to play all Charlie Parker songs. There are moments where the band is clairvoyant, and you can hear some of the same spirit that dwelt in the old clubs that Bird played. There was almost no way of recording that night, but we did manage to get a few choice cameos ''in the can.'' I play an Armstrong alto sax that was built in 1978, and I would challenge anyone to find a better horn. The format is acoustic, in keeping with the ways of John Coltrane.
