Details:
Sideburn Mike is a professional, hard-rockin'' band with a reputation of having fun and the ability to write great originals. The band''s influences range from classic rockers, like Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Police, and Tom Petty, to modern rockers, like Jeff Buckley, Phish, and Radiohead. A heavy blues, funk, and jazz influence are also present in the band''s sound.
Sideburn Mike released their full-length debut album "Frantic Strategies" on 4/23/04. The CD was recorded by Russ Castillo (3 Minute Mile, Blue Moon Revue, Right Side Down) at Castle Creek Recording, Bloomington, IN and was a careful, one-and-a-half year project. The band was voted "Second Best Band" by IU''s student newspaper, the IDS, in their 2003 Best of Bloomington Reader''s Poll. Unfortunately, the band is no longer together as they all went their seperate ways upon graduating from college, but their awesome spirit continues to live on through this rockin'' album!
The band is:
Dan Gelok - lead vocals, rhythm guitars, alto sax
Seth Forster - lead guitar, slide guitar, backing vocals
Chris Friend - bass, keyboards, backing vocals
Anthony Ray - drums, percussion, backing vocals
Publicity:
"Sideburn Mike is a rootsy rock band with some jam band elements thrown in. This record contains strong melodies and a casual, rough and tumble musicianship that actually adds to the charm - the band actually sounds like it''s having a good time recording, just keeping it loose. The album would be helped immeasurably if it was shorter - at one hour and seven minutes....but this is a band that seems to hit its groove easily and ride it well, and there''s something to be said for that."
