Details:
A song for the terrifying and beautiful Medusa. In the first known version of the myth she was one of the Gorgon Sisters, born in monstrous form. In later versions (500 BC) she was originally a beautiful priestess in the temple of Athena. When she lay with Poseidon, Athena enraged, turned her hair into snakes and made her so terrifying to behold that looking upon her would turn a man to stone. The term "evil eye" is also associated with her.
My intention was to create a piece that would relect both sides of her. I aimed for something eerie and haunted but at the same time melancholic and beautiful.
Initially I was commisioned to work upon a video game theme for a "temple of Medusa". As I was researching I became fascinated with the myth and Medusa herself. Apart from being a reccuring theme on arts she has also been a subject for psychology, a symbol for feminism and a recognisible feature in modern pop culture. I hope this song serves as a starting point for more people to take an interest for this mythical figure.
