Details:
John Rafferty hails from Rosemont, PA, a suburb of Philadelphia. As a youth, John’s interest and love for music grew and he realized quickly that he had a gift for songwriting. He started playing guitar at age sixteen. After learning the guitar, John studied and became accomplished on bass, piano, drums, and harmonica. John found that this knowledge and experience as a multi-faceted instrumentalist helped him explore the depths of his creativity, and freedom in composing songs. Although accepted to the renowned Berklee School of Music in Boston, MA, John chose a private study opportunity that allowed him the chance to compose and play professionally with local, regional, national, and international groups and artists.
John Rafferty has collaborated with the world-renowned Atlantic Records and RCA bassist/composer/arranger/producer Dave T, the phenomenal guitarist, Adam Rose, keyboardist Peter Farrell, and a host of other great musicians. John Rafferty has also worked with the very talented vocalist/multi-instrumentalist, Monique Canniere. John’s musical influences are many artists in jazz, blues, funk, and rock, including Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour, Chic Corea, Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stevie Ray Vaughn, John Mayer, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Steve Vai, John Frusciante and Vincent Gallo.
John Rafferty words: “I set out to make a great smooth jazz album. I’m trying to do something new within the smooth jazz idiom. I see myself as a songwriter, first and foremost. It’s what I love to do most in music. I enjoy the process of writing a song -- building it, shaping it. I’m trying to bring the sounds and ideas in my head, out onto a page, and onto a record.” His first single, “Bloom,” just released, accomplishes just that! John Rafferty is in the studio completing his first CD, which is set to be released in 2011.
