The concept for this band was originally conceived in 2008, I had settled in a small coastal town in Australia after touring almost constantly for a year throughout Australia and America promoting an album for my previous band. We had been one of Australia’s hardest working independent bands, and it wasn’t easy driving 36 hours straight to get from one side of Australia to the other, sleeping on the side of the road or living in a motor home with 6 people while we toured America on a tight budget.
By the time we had finished touring to promote the album we we’re well and truly burnt out and two of the founding members decided they had given enough to the band and left, and so the remaining two members being myself and the singer were forced into taking a break from the band.
Being settled wasn’t an easy thing for me and going back to work was even harder! But going back to work was how I found the concept for what would become the band you are reading about now. I worked in an incredibly mind numbing factory job during this time and I was in a dark and grey place as my band was about to implode and well yeah… I was working in a factory! Thankfully there was one character in that dingy factory that had some very interesting theories on life and it just so happened that he worked right beside me. He and I shared some pretty deep and interesting conversations during our six months in that shitty factory, and it was during one of those conversations that the concept for Colour for the Grey came to life.
It’s a simple concept and that’s all it needs to be, anything or anyone can be the colour for what would usually be a ‘grey’ world for you. It can be your friend, your love, your Mum or Dad, it can be your Daughter or Son, or it could be your music or your art.
So fast forward to now, almost two years on since those grey days in the factory, I find myself moving to a country on the other side of the earth…. Sweden! And I figure it’s a good opportunity to bring Colour for the Grey to life! I took a long shot before I left Australia and asked one of my favourite Australian singers / artists and good friend John R Ward if he would be interested in moving to Sweden and singing for Colour for the Grey, to my surprise he agreed! John landed in Sweden at 7am and by 4pm we were in the studio working on songs while he battled his jet lag!
We’re currently writing music for our debut E.P which is due for release in the early months of 2011.
