George Orlando’s third full-length album, “Back in the Race” is an eclectic collection representing almost a decade of songwriting, drawing from various musical genres including indie-rock, R&B, hip-hop, crossover-country, roots and new age; all with guitar-driven rock at the core of every song. Orlando’s own musical influences like Pink Floyd, Dave Matthews Band, Lenny Kravitz, Counting Crows, Seal, Bruce Springsteen, and Metallica are evident.
“There has to be a balance between music and lyrics”, George remarks about the songwriting process. “Musicians have a tremendous opportunity to communicate something meaningful….to create a legacy that’s worth remembering”. His own lyrics vividly reflect this sentiment, as themes of socio-political issues, struggles of today’s youth, and the losing and finding of one’s purpose and place in the world resonate throughout the entire album.
To add a deeper texture to the musical fabric of this work, George recruited fellow professional musicians such as Clay Bogan III, Peter Rodriguez, John Nieves, Jonathan Lemaine, and Colin McNamara. Also joining the ranks are dynamic vocalists like gospel singer Angel Lite Garrett, R&B up-and-comer Tarana Peaches, and the poignant rap performance from Lionel King.
