Seventeen-year-old Laura Bennett, from Shropshire England, wrote Hollow in her bedroom but wasn’t confident enough to share it with anyone else until her godfather Anthony persuaded her to record it in his home studio in Wales. He passed it to a friend at INcompany Productions, who came up with the initial cut, and the final recording and production on the song . .
Laura said: “It was a school friend’s idea to write songs and poetry. I had always been good at English and enjoyed creative writing so I decided to try and write a few lyrics. That is how Hollow came to be.
“Most of my lyrics come from life experiences and I always like to write to a story, which gives deeper meaning.
“I am eternally thankful to my godfather Anthony for helping develop my confidence and for helping write the melody to Hollow, Adam from INcompany, Pete Wells my manager for making this dream a reality and also for putting up with me.
“Not many people get this kind of opportunity - luck and chances are everything.”
Laura is studying for a BTec in performing arts at the Abraham Darby Academy sixth form alongside A Levels in English, history and philosophy & ethics, and she has her heart set on a career in performing.
Although singing has always been a big part of her life, most of her time on stage so far has been as a dancer. She began lessons at the Carmichael School of Theatre Arts in Telford when she was just three and still trains in ballet, tap and modern theatre dance. She has danced and sung in numerous professional, amateur and school shows since, most recently as a senior dancer in Oakengates Theatre’s pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk.
She has now signed a deal with Telford-based music manager Pete Wells and is also due to record a song to be included on an album later this year.
