Details:
Anil Macwan is a pop/rock singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. "As We Stood Still" is his debut EP featuring five tracks, an incredible showcase of his broad musical skills ranging from catchy pop tunes to emotionally intense acoustic folk. The common thread between the styles is a raw energy "reflecting the musician''s fondness of vintage rock" (Wired Magazine).

What differentiates the half-Indian/half-German Macwan from other artists of his genre is his digital approach to creating acoustic music, coming from his earlier days in experimental electronic music. This leads to a wonderful mess of ideas, in which the multi-talented Macwan is not only writer, singer and producer of his songs, but plays all the instruments on the EP as well. It is this eclectic style that delivers Macwan''s distinct form of pop music.

In its entirety, "As We Stood Still" describes the movement of a person through different emotional stages, from a fast and intense beginning to a slow and insightful end. From searching ("You And A Little Bit Of Magic"), missing out on something ("Bye Bye Beauty"), being in love ("Nova"), breaking up ("Last Night") to finally coming to the realization ("We''re Not In Love") that whatever you try to convince yourself of: you will never be in control.

The EP''s first track is Macwan''s debut single "You And A Little Bit Of Magic", featured in the American TV commercial for HEAD Tennis, with already over one million views on YouTube. The song "channels the rough vocal charms of a Joe Strummer, yoked to a percolating rhythm track" (Hugh Hart). It is imbued with a raw and direct energy, reflecting the writing and production having taken place in one single night. It is followed by "Bye Bye Beauty", a delicate singer-songwriter piece with an addictive melody, dealing with a missed opportunity that draws its beauty from the fact that the encounter remains unsettled. The third track, "Nova", features a fully orchestrated chorus with an incredibly rich string arrangement, a short auditory snapshot of the naive and pure feeling of being in love. In "Last Night", Macwan uses his Indian sitar, an instrument he was taught during his time in India, to create an involving sonic landscape. The EP finishes with stripped down, almost nakedly instrumented "We''re Not In Love", probably the most authentic and intimate pop jewel on the EP, as well as a wonderfully revealing and fragile peak in the holistic development of "As We Stood Still".
