About The Angel's Share:
"Bill is a fingerstyle guitarist who creates some of the sweetest creations in instrumental music. His music is all about subtlety and nuance. Listen casually and you'll be hooked. Listen close and you'll be wowed." - Wayne Bledsoe, KnoxNews, May, 2010
â the an-gelâs share â- the portion of liquid spirits that evaporates during the aging process
âMy CDs are like cicadas, they only come along every 8 years or so. The Angelâs Share represents a musical diary that first began in 1963 when I was 11 years old. Having finally acquired my first decent guitar, a red Fender Mustang, I learned the intro to Ray Charlesâ Whatâd I Say . My fate was sealed. The red Mustang is long gone, but in its place is my long time guitar, a 1962 Martin D28, and Iâm still playing Whatâd I Say.
Some of the musical stories here include a ship being tossed around in a Bermuda Triangle storm in Dogs in the Hole, a nod to my east Tennessee dialect in Might Could and Might Should, a requiem for a friend in Donât Wake the Dogs, a King Sunny Ade inspired Merciful Heanens, a love song in Puppy Love, and a farewell to my Mom in Le Vent et Le Lune (The Wind and the Moon). The guest musicians are Beth Bramhall on accordion and Pete Wasner, Vince Gillâs longtime keyboard player, on Hammond B3.â
About Bill Mize:
Tennessee fingerstyle guitarist Bill Mize appeared with the emerging acoustic guitar movement in the 1980s, and has continued to develop a style and sense of taste that influences many of today's guitarists. A past winner of The Winfield National Fingerstyle Guitar Competition in Winfield, Kansas, Bill has been featured on the popular guitar compilations "Windham Hill Guitar Sampler" and "Masters of the Acoustic Guitar" by Narada Records. Bill received a GRAMMY for his collaboration with David Holt on the recording Stellaluna, and in 2009, Billâs music appeared in the new Ken Burnsâ PBS documentary âThe National Parks: Americaâs Best Ideaâ. Bill tours selectively, and has regularly performed and presented workshops at guitar festivals nationwide, including the Montreal Jazz Festivalsâ Guitar Weekend, the Healdsburg Guitar Festival, and the Newport Guitar Festival. Acoustic Guitar, Fingerstyle Guitar, Jazziz and Vintage Guitar Magazines have all written features on Billâs music. Bill splits his time between the mountains of Tennessee and Montana.
