Lou Danga Biography

The international lyric and beat master Lou Danga, born Lucien Dufane in Puerto Prince, Haiti. Although surrounded by the violence and movements of his homeland, it was the deep cultural music of steel drums and calypso rhythms that shaped Lucien''s passion for music. His father, a strict local arts and craft dealer, and a mother running a boutique from home, filled the home with music and the dream of moving to America. Meanwhile, Lucien''s brothers taught him how to survive in the streets and exposed him to the current music of the states. Unable to speak the language, he found it to be a universal language even he could understand and appreciate at a young age. At the age of 8, Lucien''s family moved their 10 children into a south end neighborhood in Stamford, Connecticut. With difficulty adjusting to a new language and home, Lucien found himself embracing music and church. Deemed "The Drummer Boy", he was idolized by other spirited immigrant children by succeeding in playing steel drums, stick bucket strings, and bass guitar. As his basketball athletic dreams grew so did his unrelenting curiosity of music and talented ability to create it. At the age of 16, Lucien''s life changed when he was struck with the fatal shooting of his older brother Leveck at age 22 during a visit to their Haitian homeland. Unable to deal with the loss, Lucien consumed his time creating music and self-taught himself on the keyboard as a prime outlet for his talents. "It wasn''t something I knew how to handle. He was my security, my brother. Music has always been a form of expression for us growing up". Realizing he had to make a change he joined the air force and finished his college education while pursuing rap as his musical goal. While stationed in Missouri, Lucien and a few other artists formed a music group and he became known as "The Beast" for his raw lyrics. Fascinated with the "Groove Box" beat machine, he built a small home recording studio and began work on recording tracks and creating new beats. Technique combined with skills and format, Lucien and his high energy group began performing at local events and getting public notice while discovering the audience''s growing interest in his club anthem music. Unfortunately they never realeased an album. Lucien makes a break for Los Angeles, California to pursue his career. " What I was doing wasn''t enough. I needed something more and I knew I had a knack for making beats and rhythms. " Adjusting to California and discovering its "come correct" attitude to music, he began collaborating with local artists and recording in the studio. Lucien started producing beats for local underground artists. After contacting management, they start sending out demos. With upcoming shows, he will be promoting the release of his highly anticipated debut solo album "World Coast" set for September, 2006. While Lou Danga is putting the finishing touches on hot new tracks "Cold World" and "Come and Get It". Laying claim to his name and refining his creative potency he continues to record. "The raw sobriety of my music will make everybody dance and touch peoples emotions, I''m different then what''s mainstream. My music will touch you whether it’s a lyric or a cord." With funky fluid beats and raw lyrics, Lou Danga is a musical science that will not be denided.
