Roughly translated from its Arabic roots, Noba means "A moment in time." The perfect title for a band that is never satisfied, working tirelessly to preserve its honesty and sincerity at every step. Yes, the band''s four members are extremely particular, but to pull off an album such as their debut, "Man With a Briefcase," they would have to be.
With a sound brilliantly described as "A garage band in heaven" Noba delivers keenly arranged, beautifully written songs packed with melody, all the while maintaining a youthful spirit and energy. From dense guitars coupled with screaming keyboards and boldly assertive vocals, to sweet, soft ballads delicately textured with three-part harmonies, "Man With a Briefcase" is a gem.
Their story began in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1992. Noba members Dave, Jason and Mickey met and began some experimental sessions. The following year they enlisted Jeremy, and emerged shortly thereafter as Brother Rabbit. The group effortlessly blew the minds of University of Michigan students, drawing hundreds of fans each week to the local music clubs.
In 1997 they took the next step. New York City: a new home, new surroundings and new inspiration. The band stretched out and explored old-time country and bluegrass music, minimalist composition, atonal music and modern electronica. This outpouring of ideas, fostered by the creed that all directions were to be pursued, was the genesis for what would eventually become, "Man With a Briefcase."
The band has enjoyed success in New York City, with exciting live shows that have dazzled their audiences. Three hundred cheering fans gathered for a recent performance celebrating the release of the new CD. Noba is a moment in time where seemingly random objects collide to produce something far greater than the sum of their parts. It''s rare, mysterious...and just plain rocks.
