MP3 Ian Renshaw - Genre is a Dirty Word
Electronica, samba and classical elements pile in for the ride. Tracks one to three demonstrates that, well, genre is indeed a dirty word... Tracks 4 to 6 are playful, upbeat and big on tune and eyebrow-raising electro arrangements.
6 MP3 Songs in this album (21:16) !
Related styles: Avant Garde: Electro-Acoustic, Electronic: Experimental, Mood: Quirky

Details:
I wrote the first version of Genre on an old PC back in 2003 whilst feeling a bit cross about creative typecasting (deep, eh?) In 2009 Eclectix reworked it from scratch; they let rip with a bouncy samba-driven romp and the result is miles away from the dark original. Jem Clark followed up with the dubstep remix. I Do Not Have a Pomegranate is a song about not having a pomegranate (something many of us can relate to). It’s sung partly in Farsi and features a chant by Alice Parkinson. I had a go at playing guitar on this track too. I See You emerged one night following a slightly drunken and very satisfying bash on my piano and Starlight is a deliberately formulaic pop song with lyrics written and sung by Julia Pritchard. Look out for: not one but two keychanges, a descending bass line, hand claps, an ‘80s style instrumental hook and a false ending. Who says minimalism is any fun at all?
