Abernethy Road started in 2007, in tiny Gladstone, Oregon, under the name Awkward for Everyone. Original members were Gabriel Bello, Justin Love, Rian Simpson, Josiah Pyles, and Bryan Vehrencamp. After a few shows, and a member change, the band started developing the sound they have today- which includes a strong mix of influences such as Van Halen, Rush, AC/DC, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and MUSE.
Despite criticism from some, and a shaky start, Abernethy Road sought to meet their number one goal: To make music that could stand the test of time. With no desire to be a "flash in the pan," the band studied their heros from the past and modeled after them, going back to the drawing board time and time again, re-working their songs until they were not just good, but great.
This being the first serious band any of the members had ever been in, the first few years were spent building a strong brotherhood between bandmates and going through every new experience virtually blind, flying by the seat of their pants, and falling flat on their face with shows, recordings, and merchandise. Despite the failures and mistakes, they continued on- drawing inspiration from the AC/DC song: "It''s a long way to the top, if you wanna Rock and Roll."
Show after show, the band begin to taste success, and started to believe in themselves. They began to promote their music and their business. They became a traditional part of the City of Gladstone''s Annual Chautauqua Festival, not only performing in the festival itself, but also playing on a float in the parade, and nightly jams at HappyRock Coffee Roastery. In the summer of 2010, the band (with the help of their fans) drank 620 cans of Peace Iced Tea, making a giant structure with the leftover cans in an attempt to get a sponsorship.
In early 2011, Abernethy Road worked with Supernatural Sounds and Dean Baskerville to release "Brand New," their first professionally recorded song, and the self-produced single for their up and coming album, due to release Summer of 2011.
What does the future hold for the Road? Where will this path lead? It''s hard to say. The only certain thing is that they will continue the journey they started.
