PLOT: Our story begins in the early hours of Tuesday, September 11, 2001. It is still dark outside but the orange glow on the eastern horizon beckons to a beautiful New York City morning. Our protagonists, Johnnie and Goodie Passion, are lying in bed dreaming. Johnnie is restless, tossing, his heart pounding. Smoke! Fire! Chaos! Something bad is happening to his wife. Goodie dreams of Johnnie. “Johnnie Passion, it’s all right he’s to the rescue”!
Goodie Passion is a 26-year old, genetically beautiful, Brooklyn-New York City girl. She is an up and coming lawyer working for a big law firm located in the World Trade Center. It is not surprising that she attracts a lot of attention from people. Especially men like her boss, The Wolf of Wall Street. The serious attention from The Wolf is both annoying and amazing. A Brooklyn girl like Goodie and the rich and powerful Wolf? Life was supposed to be simple. What about Johnnie and the baby girl they have been hoping for?
Johnnie is a 30-year old firefighter for the Fire Department of New York City (FDNY), Brooklyn Station 343. He comes from a big family. His father, uncle, and big brother are all New York City firefighters. Johnnie is an intense and passionate type of guy. Always worrying about the next problem. If only he could make more money and afford to support a family in expensive New York City.
Johnnie and Goodie have been married for two years and it has been about as good as it gets for two people living in American in the year 2001. But recent stress has visited both of our protagonist’s lives. Is Johnnie ready for a family? Why is Goodie pushing so hard for a baby? What is going on at Goodie’s work? Who is this Wolf of Wall Street? Is she reckless? Is Johnnie jealous? Why the foreboding dreams? Why the funky feelings?
A beautiful morning in the “Power Nexus of the World”: 21st century New York City, USA. Hate is on the horizon and we can’t walk away. This is the story of a few of the approximately 3000 individuals who died in the Twin Tower Tragedy!
Twin Tower Tragedy (A Rock Opera) by: JPZ
ACT I
1. Overture: The Dream Brooklyn NY, bedroom: (06:00 AM)
On a beautiful fall morning the sounds of nature mix with the foreboding sound of bells tolling. “The bell tolls for …?” In an apartment bedroom in Brooklyn, NY, Johnnie and Goodie Passion are tossing and turning in their bed while vividly dreaming. It is nightmare for each. Fire, destruction, separation! Who will rescue whom?
2. Twin Tower Tragedy Brooklyn NY, kitchen: (07:00 AM)
The sounds of traffic and a harmonic echo into the kitchen of Johnnie and Goodie’s modest two-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn, NY. He tells her of his foreboding dream and worries about her going to work that day. She hides the truth about her own ominous dreams and tells him not to worry, that everything’s all right. But FATE answers: It’s a Twin Tower Tragedy.
3. I Feel So Funky New York METRO subway train: (8:00 AM)
Goodie and Johnnie leave for work and ride the New York Metro subway to their respective train stations: Brooklyn for Johnnie and the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan for Goodie. She is anxious since her rich boss (The Wolf of Wall Street), proposed to her, even though she is a married woman and devoted to her husband Johnnie. She feels funky, guilty, and sorry over all of the stress. Johnnie has similar thoughts and can’t shake the fear/jealousy he feels about Goodie.
4. Just an Illusion Floor 76, South WTC: (8:42 AM)
Goodie Passion and The Wolf of Wall Street are together in his corner office on the 76th floor of the South Tower, World Trade Center 2, NYC. The Wolf makes one last plea for Goodie’s heart. Goodie is confused (hurt and shame, the love, the pain). While looking out the window, Goodie sees a commercial jet airplane fly past the Twin Towers.
5. I Saw a Comet Floor 76, South WTC: (8:46 AM)
(BANG!!) The 1st plane crashes into WTC 1. Goodie is looking north out the 76th floor window of the South Tower 2, World Trade Center. The Wolf and Goodie first watch the fireball erupt from the North Tower (speed of light) and then they feel the shudder of explosion (speed of sound). The sight of bodies falling and people jumping out of the damaged Tower are surreal. Now it’s on the news. Are the Wolf and Goodie in this disaster together? The Wolf goes back to his office to get something. Goodie remembers Johnnie dream that morning.
6. Can’t Walk Away South WTC/Brooklyn FDNY Station 343: (9:03 AM)
(BOOM!!) The 2nd plane crashes into the South Tower causing incredible destruction. Goodie is trapped by the emergency stairway but can’t climb down. The Wolf is trapped by the window of his office. Fire surrounds the entire floor. The Wolf of Wall Street realizes the catastrophic situation and opens his heart to Goodie. Goodie uses her cell phone to call Johnnie at FDNY Station 343. She talks to Johnnie and tells him she can’t walk away. Goodie, Johnnie, and The Wolf lament over the tragedy and the baby girl that may never be born. They all express their love of life! The Wolf, trapped by intensely approaching fire, climbs towards the shattered window. Whoa! It is so far up. Bells toll again! Goodie and Johnnie talk to each other over the cell phone. The Wolf of Wall Street jumps from the 76th floor of the WTC 2!
7. Intermission (“Please observe 11 seconds of silence in honor of 9-11”)
ACT II
8. Fire Truck Ride FDNY Fire truck 343, Brooklyn, NY: (9:20 AM)
(Fire truck siren). Johnnie is riding on FDNY fire truck 343 traveling rapidly over the Brooklyn Bridge, heading towards the burning World Trade Center Towers in lower Manhattan, NYC. Goodie, stuck on the destroyed South Tower stairway landing, laments the tragedy in unison with Johnnie.
9. Insane Inside Here “Climbing the stairs”: South WTC: (9:40 AM)
(Sounds of disaster). Johnnie, FDNY firefighter and husband, arrives at the Twin Towers disaster scene. He begins to climb the South Tower emergency stairwell. He feels like a loser for not being able to protect Goodie. Goodie feels the new life inside of her and grieves for the baby girl she and Johnnie have dreamt of having. Exhausted, he pauses on a stairway landing and prays for a miracle. Goodie echoes the prayer. He continues to climb the South Tower stairway until he finally makes it up to the 75th floor. No further progress is possible because the stairway has been destroyed at this location.
10. I’ll Wait Forever Fire and destruction on Floor 76, WTC: (9:59 AM)
Johnnie has made it up to the 75th floor of the South WTC. It is as far as he can go. No rescue is possible. In the utter devastation throughout the building he spots Goodie on the adjacent 76th floor landing, but they are separated by flaming debris. Goodie and Johnnie make eye contact and begin to sing to each other. At the end of the song the Tower falls down! Johnnie reaches for Goodie, leaps and touches her hand one last time.
(CRASH!!) (South WTC collapses!)
11. Goodie Passion The Chaos of the WTC Collapse: (10:00 AM) With electric guitar in hand, Johnnie Passion storms out of the midst of the rubble and destruction of the South Tower, World Trade Center. Goodie joins him! They sing an anthem of commitment, love, longing, and heroic sacrifice.
12. Coda: The End. Cemetery overlooking Manhattan: (Present Day).
(Sounds of nature). It is a beautiful, sunny day. In a cemetery overlooking a view of the New York City skyline, (minus the Twin Towers), three simple gravestones are seen. The gravestones read: Johnnie Passion. Goodie Passion. Baby Passion. A Greek Chorus laments the deaths. From the grave voices ask: Why? To Where?
The END
