Musical History
I taught myself basic blues and gospel piano while growing up in South Carolina. This evolved into dowop group singing in the U. S. Air Force across Europe, North Africa, and at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Back to civilian life after an Honorable discharge from the Air Force. I was the bass singer and pianist for a group called, “The Mandells”, Chess Records, “Darling I’m Home”. 1961.
After graduating from the University of New Mexico, I went to work in television. Following a short stint as a sportscaster, I became an investigative reporter. That focus brought me to beautiful Minneapolis/ St. Paul Minnesota. I could not have asked for better, but all along I really, really missed pounding that booming dowop bass, while being surrounded by that smooth, tight harmony….So, I purchased a multi-track recording system, and created my own studio.
Now, not only do I write new stuff, I can also sing ALL of the voices, and play all of the instruments on my keyboard. What we have here are the multiplicative proclivities of an old dowopper bringing it back. Here it is. Now I need your approval to make it real. All you’ve got to do is listen, and dowop. Neil
