Details:
Stone Stanley is a mystic man,” says Jason Trombley, or “JT” as he’s most commonly coined. JT is singer/songwriter for the band named after his hero. “He’s a record producer from the 40’s,50’s and 60’s. (The) rumor is he exiled himself to the high desert of San Bernardino County in the early 70’s following the corporate takeover of the American music scene.”

“Just being around him would make even the most seasoned musician feel young and relevant again.” JT’s been performing clubs, festivals and parties for the last five years under the name of his mentor. “Stone gave me permission to use his name awhile back. His music is folky but soulful…with a hint of reggae.” JT perks up when the subject turns to his other mentor and world renowned bass player extraordinaire, Juan Nelson. “A few years ago, all I could tell you about Juan was that he played bass for Ben Harper and The Innocent Criminals. I always knew he was a tour de force, but I had no idea the genius he was until I got the chance to work with him.”

Nelson not only provides bass and background vocals for Stone Stanley, but he also brought in the players that give their upcoming debut album an undeniable magic. Such players include Rock Deadrick (Tracy Chapman, Ziggy Marley) on drums and percussion; David Kalish (Ricki Lee Jones) on guitar, and Jelani Jones on keyboards/organs. “Juan and I basically co-produced this record,” says JT who considers his collaboration with Nelson to be the highlight of his musical life. “Juan is a mystic in his own right.”

Stone Stanley is getting set to embark on a national tour which features JT on guitar and vocals, Nelson on bass/vocals and Juans son, and musical prodigy, Preston Nelson on drums. While other players are sure to accompany the group, this trio provides the core nucleus of the bands unique sound. “I’m basically a folksinger,” says JT. “Juan brings the funk while Preston is rooted in reggae.” JT glows with excitement and optimism when discussing the bands upcoming tour. “We are very pleased with our product. We hope others feel the same way…all we know is how good it makes us feel. Our goal is to share that feeling with our audience.”

Stone Stanley’s self titled debut album is scheduled for release January 1st, 2011. The first song, Anywhere I Go, lays a funky and soulful acoustic groove which the rest of the album seems to follow. Other tracks such as Crazy and Now I Know highlight the bands reggae side, while tracks like Oilman Sam showcases country blues set to anti-war protest lyrics. Space is the Place is by far the most eclectic track, containing a host of chants from the late/great jazz composer Sun Ra. All in all, 2011 promises to be an exciting year as the Stone Stanley legacy continues to unfold for both the legend himself, and for the band that bears his name. It also promises to be a great opportunity for any music lovers who have the good fortune of seeing this band perform.
