Louise and Rick
Louise Rogers and Rick Strong are a voice and bass duo who live in New York City. They can be seen regularly at various clubs in and around the city.
"The idea of a small ensemble had always interested us. We were drawn to and fell in love with the bass and voice concept: the intimacy, the space, and the woody, organic, acoustic sound. The songs on this CD were carefully chosen. We looked for pieces that were interesting, funny, or simply beautiful and that lent themselves to this instrumentation. We hope you enjoy listening to this CD as much as we enjoyed recording it."
".. the most joyously encouraging way of expanding the audience for jazz I''ve heard is the work of jazz singer - educator Louise Rogers"
Nat Hentoff
"Establishes a new relationship between bass and voice...reminiscent of Tuck and Patti...you will long to hear this CD"
Kim Nazarian - New York Voices
"Masterful performance...refreshing to hear...this music is exposed and draws you into it."
Jerry Bergonzi - Internationally recognized jazz saxophonist and teacher
"Achieves a beautiful mood with the voice and bass."
Luciana Souza - Grammy nominated Jazz vocalist
"A wonderful innocence and a pure, unaffected quality."
Les Hooper - Arranger and composer
"Louise Rogers...great chops and a warm, witty approach to song..." Andrew Rowan - All About Jazz, New York
"Louise possesses a voice of subtlety and strength. Rick has a beautiful rich tone on both upright and electric basses. My favorite moments come when Louise and Rick are doubling each other on swinging chromatic phrases, making them sound like one instrument instead of two, completely locked in to what the other is doing."
Peter Eldridge - member of the Grammy award winning vocal group New York Voices.
"Louise has a voice that will reach right out and touch your heart - and won''t let go ... smooth, yet full of verve and life! ... highly recommended!"
Improvijazzation Nation issue #71
"the musical symbiosis between Louise & Rick are such that their musical collaborative idea works beautifully."
George W. Carroll/The Musicians'' Ombudsman
