Born and raised in Miami, Robert is an award-winning singer/songwriter (Miami Times – Best Songwriter and Best Song for “Thirty Pieces of Silver”) currently living in Virginia. While Robert has performed and recorded with a number of bands, Rise Above is his first solo release.
This collection of original songs cover a wide range of musical and emotional ground - from the hushed, hopeful lullaby of "Lost" to the atmospheric depths of "Life Pretend Perhaps" to the spiritually uplifting "Brand New Place".
"Many of my songs examine the darker side of specific situations but I was really wanting to release this particular collection of songs as I felt so strongly about the positive story they told together," shared Ankrom.
The spiritual nature of the lyrics is a theme that carries through the entire project.
"Despite my strong spiritual beliefs," added Ankrom "I have always been hesitant to write full-out spiritual songs as I was afraid they might sound forced and predictable. I feel that I have finally latched onto a way to share my faith in an honest way. I''m really looking forward to playing these songs live."
