Rachel Wagner''s music is a quiet celebration that has been described as wistful, exposed and delicate. Breathy yet clean vocals are intricately layered on top of instrumentation as simple as piano and bass. This singer-songwriter sees between the lines and recognizes the in between places extending the invitation to wait there, to fight, and to hope. As the listener finds courage to surrender to a moment of quiet, the strength of the invitation to listen to what is untold, weaves its spell. Rachel’s newest album, due out in Spring 2011, is entitled “Untold”. Rachel explains: “A friend asked me ‘what exactly is untold?’ And I think it is all that we hide from in ourselves and each other. We are masters at hiding….carrying around fig leaves in our pockets at all times. The songs on this album take a look at those hiding places and hopefully shine the light of encouragement to step out of them.”
“Untold” is Rachel’s third album following “Everyday Things” (2006) and “When We’re There I’ll Let You Know” (2008). All three were self produced and recorded at home which suits Rachel just fine. She states, “my songs are about life so it seems only right that they are recorded right here where my life happens.” Rachel is known for delivering a genuine performance, creating an atmosphere in which her listeners feel as comfortable as if they were in her living room. Summer 2009 found Rachel on a northwestern tour. She, her husband Jon, and the three kids packed things up into the mini-van and headed out to coffee shops and pubs in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana, towing their shiny teardrop trailer behind them. Rachel spent 2010 recording her newest album and is gearing up for some more performing and exploring the great adventure of what is yet “untold”.
