Alison Helzer started playing tenor banjo at age 10. She was a founding member of the Celtic band, Tonn Nua, and toured the Western States from 2004-2009. In the summer of 2009, she performed in Ireland with Co. Mayo musician Gerry Carthy. Alison began playing classical music on tenor guitar in 2008. She has a special fondness for J.S. Bach and Turlough O’Carolan. Her Celtic influences include Gerry O’Connor, Gerry Carthy, Angelina Carberry, Kieran Hanrahan, Michael Black, Sean Tyrrell, Dave Corey and bands Lunasa, Danu, Solas, Molly’s Revenge, The Duhks and many more.
