Details:
Ominous Frolic by Dance The Bridge is a journey through style and genre, spanning musical sensibilities as diverse as singer-songwriter folk, rock, electronic, orchestral, narrative melodramas, and even the odd foray into ‘candy land’ death metal, all within the confines of an accessible pop aesthetic. Damon Gentry’s voice provides the strength, melody and guidance through multifaceted prose and verse, covering a range of topics including supernatural romance, bumbling life experiences, Lovecraftian horror, and technological mastery. Damon’s warm, naturalistic vocal delivery is bolstered by David Roby’s expertly crafted multi-instrumental tapestry. The album features timbres as diverse as banjo, mandolin, keyboard, synthesizer, electric and acoustic guitar, musique concrete, scored string quartet, full orchestra, in addition to various percussion. These elements coalesce to buttress the dramatic impetus of the album while contrasting the absurdity, loquaciousness, and humor in the songwriting.

The ambitious production of Ominous Frolic was achieved despite the waterloo of quotidian wage-slavery, inadequate equipment and lacking facility. Ominous Frolic was recorded over a 9-month period on two home computers in living rooms and sleeping quarters in Orlando, Florida. All composition, recording, editing, production, mixing, and mastering was consummated by Damon Gentry and David Roby, the principle members of Dance The Bridge. Personnel on Ominous Frolic include percussion performed by Jeff Johnson of D003Y D3C1MAL and Gestalt, with trombone, melodica, and harmonica accompaniment provided by David Torres who also performs under the pseudonym Chimes McGavern.
