Details:
Reserved 16 took flight in Pasadena, California in 2003. The band was launched as singer/acoustic guitarist Beau Wammack, sought to renovate the singer/songwriter sound developed in coffee shops during his college years into something more diverse and fuller sounding. The first step was enlisting Ross Allcroft to play bass. Ross spent his formative years listening to the complex sounds of Matt Freeman from the band Rancid, modeling his style on those progressive, rolling bass lines. Ross’ musical taste intrigued Beau as it helped bring a different perspective to the music. Another longtime friend, Scott Unger, came aboard to provide another viewpoint to enhance the band’s creative abilities. Scott, known as a drummer of unique skill whose attention to variety and knack for technicality, has become the backbone of the band’s sound. Allen Tsai came on to play electric guitar and sing backup, providing the band with the desired flair for the dramatic and the fullness they needed to round out the sound. Each member of Reserved 16 brings a memorable style to the band''s overall melodic rock sound. Although unique, these different aspects unite and perfectly complement Beau’s lush, open chords and velvet voice, resulting in the extraordinary signature Reserved 16 sound. The band manages to imprint a distinct feel through a variety of musical approaches and sounds; one of beautiful melodies, thick textures, precise rhythms, and insightful lyrics.

In early 2004, Reserved 16 released their first official album entitled Reigning Shadows. In support of this release, the band played over 150 shows, initially in Los Angeles, and eventually, across the country on multiple self-booked tours. The constant performing helped the band to create and define an enthusiastic live show. A live show that has been validated by a continually growing fan base in every city they have played. If Reigning Shadows represents the band still in its adolescence, then touring brought the band into its maturity. A growth that helped them realize what they as a group truly value in their music, where they desire to take it, the variety in style and sound that they can capture, and how to consistently engage their live audiences. Reserved 16 continues to strive to portray a sincere reflection of their music and its correlation to their maturing skills and personalities to their fans.

Reserved 16 knew the next stage was to put their experiences and reflections to music. This motivation sparked them to head back into the studio and the result is their latest release “The Mayday EP”. This is an album in which the band seeks to showcase their multi-faceted sound by compiling a group of songs that captures what they have now become; a driven band who knows what they want and, more importantly, how they want to portray it. The band decided to tackle more serious issues such as the understanding of failed relationships, the search for purpose, and the struggles of following what one feels called to do. "Leavable," for instance, is the melancholy realization of having to deal with the misgivings of distrust and deception. "Mayday," with its intense imagery of attacking fighter planes, is a search for answers amongst destruction and hardship, while "Gone Too Long" is a powerful tale of renaissance and the struggle to return to innocence.

Reserved 16 has displayed an amazing amount of growth in this new collection of songs. Each member considers “The Mayday EP” to be an excellent representation of where the band currently stands and how stylistically diverse their music can be. This work is an honest glimpse into the life of a band that seeks to break their own boundaries and prove to themselves just how far they can take their music.
