Apell is Anthony Pell an Australian, Melbourne based musician creating unique downtempo electronic music encompassing styles as diverse as rock, jazz, funk & dub. Apell has been internationally acclaimed as "a tour de force with a creative mind who lives in a world of his own" - Marty Peters RECORDING (Magazine US)
"Beaver Street & Beyond" is a musical progression from Apell's 1st self titled 2000 album utilising his multi instrumental talents to create music from downtempo grooves to industrial tinged breaks. The album ranges in style from the frenetic electronic jazz of "Entertainment Complex" to the heavy dub of "Wrinkle" to the upbeat funk of "Suit Up" & more. Like the self titled debut this album features guest performers from John Dickens on guitar on the surprising flamenco bagpipe groove of "Exciting Soul Cock of the Stirring North" to the sublime vocals of Rachael Hawkins on the smouldering "Tomorrow".
""Beaver Street & Beyond" represents an original and groovy album of seducvtive electronic music, convincingly flirting with jazzy flavors, rock approaches, 70es glamour, disco-funk fun, dub effects, industrial attitude, drum'n'bass aesthetics, retro samples and more. Mostly downtempo electronica, the tunes are easily captured by the free flying spirit of uptempo break beats that make it even more exciting. The everyday sounds (samples and location recordings from Australia) definitely offer a lot in terms of personal touch and originality, but also a heavy use of guitars (even classical ones) help better define its character. The key of interpretation lays in the eclectic and brilliant mind of this dynamic and pro-active fellow who came up with this music. This album is so diverse and multifaceted in style that it could appe(a)l to a number of different music fans, including those who like Massive Attack, Unkle, Groove Armada, Zappa, Radiohead, John Zorn and many others..........
......There's quite a buzz around Apell's music, at least in Australia, so I suggest you make some time to figure out if it is worth your time, because it was worth mine."

The music created by Apell is influenced by many musical styles & artists not necessarily limited to electronic music. From an initial rock background artists that have musically influenced Apell include U2, Radiohead, King Crimson, Frank Zappa & Jimi Hendrix. The jazz influence in Apell can be traced back to innovative people like John Coltrane, Miles Davis & John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra. The major electronic influences on the Apell sound include people such as Massive Attack, Squarepusher, Unkle & Groove Armada. These artists' use of guitars, basses & other instruments in an electronic context have inspired Apell & the studio techniques used to create his music. Apell's musical objective is to create innovative & entertaining music that is not just a carbon copy of other electronic music.
