The True Face Of Human Nature - Liner Notes
Abort Every Weakness:
Instrumental
Erase All Fear:
You can achieve everything you want to achieve in your life. Make up your mind and make your own choices. Decide for yourself what it is you want to do and not just go for what is expected of you. There are already too many sheep blindly following the flock, so don’t be afraid of what others might think. Then just make it happen: work really hard for what you believe in, have total faith in yourself and let your passion flow to creativity. When you use your potential you will succeed. This song is inspired by certain lyrics of Behemoth (https://www.tradebit.com) and Morbid Angel (https://www.tradebit.com). They made it clear to me that it’s possible to realize your dreams.
Architecture Disavowed:
Doing something positive with your life, going for it, working hard, building something up… Unfortunately this equals dealing with jealousy & lies nowadays. At first everyone’s at your side and helping you out. But once you become a threat it all turns around; you get ignored, minimized, demolished, denied… The perfect fuel to work even harder, don’t you think? Architecture prevails…
Controle Alt Delete:
Technology is still improving and growing more important in our western society. The purpose of this development is mainly an increasing strife for pleasure and for the love of ease, like remote controls and games. A very important side effect is that we become more and more passive, lazy and apathic human beings. Our minds are controlled by bits and bytes, we become unskilled and we create sick thoughts. In a way we are wiping out our own identity…Control Alt Delete!
Prelude To The Cataclysm:
Instrumental
Four Slaves, Four Struggles:
In the summer of 2004 I spend my holiday in Florence, Italy. One of the many tourist attractions I visited was the Academia del’Arte. The best-known work of art in this museum is Michelangelo’s ‘David’. What struck me even more were 4 sculptures paving the way towards ‘David’, called the ‘Four Slaves’. These statues are called the ‘slaves’ because it are unfinished sculptures of which certain contours are visible, where other body parts are still hidden inside the stone. As a result of this it seems as if the sculpted persons are trying to break free from the bricks of marble holding them captive. Just like we have to break free from rules, regulations, thoughts, doubts and standards to be ourselves and to be free.
Martyr vs. Terrorist:
Terrorism… the subject that dominates the news broadcasts the last years. The Twin Towers, Madrid, London, Iraq… images engraved in our collective memory. The young men raising these massacres are brainwashed to the point they consider themselves martyrs. Seen from our western point of view they’re nothing more then killers and murderers, sowing death and destruction, harvesting hate and grief. The seeds for a new world war are here; reason enough to stop and think about this.
Poetry For The Scum:
Ok, if this song doesn’t get us one of those ‘Parental warning: explicit lyrics’ stickers, I don’t know what will. This one is for all the liars, two-faced clowns and hypocrites I came across the last years. It’s sad to see dishonesty still pays off, leaving me with piles of frustration. I don’t think I’m the only one who had to undergo situations and people like this. If you did, scream out the poetry for the scum, you’ll feel relieved, believe me…
In Flanders Fields:
This poem was written by Major John McCrae on the 3rd of May 1915; born from the fire and blood of the First World War. McCrae, who was stationed in Ypres as a doctor wrote ‘In Flanders Fields’ after the death of his friend Lieutenant Helmer. As a doctor, he was confronted daily with the wounded and dying. With every new death he asked himself if this sacrifice made any sense. The horror and misery touched him deeply, urging him to put pen to paper. Writing poems was his way to deal with his feelings and experiences. This poem became a worldwide symbol for sacrifice and the battle for freedom, while the poppy that is mentioned in ‘In Flanders Fields’ is still the symbol for all the fallen. The contrast between the poppy, standing for life and peace, and the crosses, standing for death and war, remains very striking.
We Are The Dead:
With the dying of the veterans the last witnesses of the First World War are lost. Still, it can’t be forgotten that 100.000’s of soldiers and civilians died during this war. They gave their lives for our freedom and independence. You can have a barbeque, go to shows, play soccer or do whatever it is you like to do and we take all this stuff for granted. This wasn’t the case for the people who spent four years in the ice-cold, wet and stinking trenches. This song is inspired by John McCrae''s poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ and by a visit to the city of Ypres and its surroundings. Here, the remnants of the Great War are still visible. Like the Menin Gate, through which the soldiers marched towards the battlefield, or the Bayerwald site, were you can walk through the trenches. Book Of Memories:
‘Book Of Memories’ deals with a new social phenomenon: mobbing, which stands for harassments and violations at work. These lyrics are conceived as a diary of a victim of this kind of harassments. A victim screaming out frustration, anger, guilt, doubt, grief and pain while memories keep passing before his/her eyes. The events that are mentioned in "Book Of Memories" are based on a true story. Mobbing can destroy passion, happiness, goals and yes, even lives. A few years ago a Belgian postman committed suicide after years of violations at his office. People who want to know more about this subject or people that need help can start looking at https://www.tradebit.com (Belgium).
The True Face Of Human Nature:
What is the true face of human nature?
The small harassments and oppositions we tend to bother each other with day in day out? Or sick and horrifying acts like terrorism, murder and child abuse? Think about wars, addictions or how we treat our peers like shit…
Or is mankind’s true face about helping each other out? About love, peace and understanding, to make it sound like a hippie tune? Or about following your dreams, taking your life in your own hands, self-confidence, freedom, dedication…
Apparently we’re not that easy to analyze.
Crimson Falls - Bio
The oldest traces of the Crimson Falls date back to spring 2002, when the band was originally formed by Kristof Damen (guitar), Ringo Van Dingenen (guitar) and Sigi Loots (drum). Ringo and Sigi had already been playing together in Outrage and Reller, two hardcorebands, while Kristof had a past in two metalcorebands: Unbound NC and Amain. With this line-up they composed the first CF-songs while looking for a suitable singer and bass player to make the band complete. In October 2002 both were found in Filip Van Damme (vocals) and Maarten Van Houdt (bass).
The first shows were played in April/May 2003. After these shows it became clear that not everyone in the band had the same view on the musical direction. Vocalist Filip didn’t feel comfortable with the more melodic death metal-styled music the rest of the band was heading for, so both sides agreed that going their own ways was the best option to take. After this, Crimson Falls kept on rehearsing and writing new songs as a foursome. After 8 long months, a new singer was found in former Legion-singer Wim Jacobs in spring 2004. Wim had the same musical background and preferences as the other CF-members so the musical direction wasn’t an issue any longer.
The new line-up started playing shows in August 2004; building up a solid live reputation. Meanwhile Crimson Falls got ready for the recordings of their first release. In May 2005 the debut mcd ‘Ruins 2K5’ saw the light of day. ‘Ruins 2K5’ contained five songs in which the band blended metalcore and melodic Swedish death metal. Crimson Falls recorded this album at Waves Studio, the predecessor of AK’s Studio. The artwork is designed by Dirge Design. This first effort put the band on the map in the metal & hardcore scene and got praised by an impressive series of national and international reviews. More shows followed in support of the album.
In 2006 Crimson Falls was faced with new line-up troubles with the departure of bass player Maarten Van Houdt. This didn’t stop the band from taking the next step in their evolution with the recordings of their first full-length label release. In December 2006 ‘The True Face Of Human Nature’ came out on Shiver Records. The album, recorded, mixed and mastered at CCR studio (Aborted, In-Quest, Betzefer, Liar, Lengtche..), brings you 45 minutes of modern & hard-hitting deathMETALcore. ..The True Face Of Human Nature.. features guest appearances by Svencho (Aborted) on ‘Controle Alt Delete’ and XCaroX (No Recess) on ‘Martyr Vs. Terrorist.’ The artwork is conceived by Avernus Studios, a new design agency born out of the ashes of Dirge Design (Immolation, The Amenta, In-Quest..). An extensive booklet is added to this album with liner notes commenting every song, giving a deeper insight on the lyrical content. Bass on these recordings was played by Sven ‘The Bassturbator’ Janssens (Aborted, Axamenta, Unleash The Fury). For the live shows Kristof Taveirne (Spoil Engine, Regression) filled in the empty spot on stage. A permanent replacement was found in September 2006 when Tom Trancez (I Witness, Serial Butcher) joined Crimson Falls. After the release of the ‘The True Face Of Human Nature’, Crimson Falls concentrated on promoting the new album, playing numerous shows in Europe, with a performance at Graspop Metal Meeting 2007 as the absolute highlight.
Crimson Falls recorded its second full length in September/October 2008 at CCR studio and was mixed and mastered there as well in November/December 2008. ‘Fragments Of Awareness’ got released by Genet Records in April 2009. The new album shows a more mature and evolved Crimson Falls, pushing their mix of ingredients to the extreme. This one is harder, more varied a hard-hitting then ever before. The album features guest vocals from Bart (Rafflesia) at ‘The Suicide Circle’, while members of When Blood Burns, It Breeds No More, Rafflesia and Crimson Falls team up for some gang vocals on ‘With All Due Respect’ & ‘Regenesis’. After this release the band shared the stage with scene leaders The Black Dahlia Murder, All Shall Perish, White Chapel, Origin & Despised Icon. Their appearance at Ieperfest 2009 was the start of Crimson Falls’ first European Tour which brought the band to Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Czech Republic, Austria & Holland. After this tour the band decide to go further without guitar player Ringo as his personal life made it impossible for him to invest the necessary time and effort in the band any longer. A few weeks later drummer Sigi decided to quit the band as he lost the motivation to go on. Jeroen Foré (https://www.tradebit.come, ex-Catafalque) was enrolled as the new guitar player, with whom Crimson Falls started working on new material in autumn 2009; while Friso Van Wijck (ex-Polluted Inheritance) stepped in as a temporary replacement on the drums, making sure no show had to be cancelled and giving the band the time to search for a new permanent replacement. After a long but profound search, Michael Stevenick was welcomed as the new drummer in May 2010. The definite start for the new Crimson Falls; eager for more shows, more tours & more releases! Soon, so stay tuned!
