Details:
Chester Voumette (accent on the first syllable) will readily tell you that he was a minor player in the development of the early Chicago Punk scene. But he was there, as a drummer and backing vocalist under a number of monikers for a series of bands from 1978 to 1981. These punk, pop, and new wave bands include Popperz, one of the first working Punk bands in Chicago; Marquette Park’s The Martian Plan; popular anthemic art band band Gary Jones; and pop synth groundbreakers Fame. Chester’s drumming can be heard on Gary Jones’ second single Friction/Underground (Tyfilm).

But before landing on the shores of Wrigleyville, Chester had already strapped on his Fender Duo-Sonic II guitar and wraparound sunglasses and recorded a handful of demos of original punk tunes. When the label-hating Chester was asked what syle these performances were, he would reply, "We play Stunk Rock." Four of these tracks were released in 2008 on an EP entitled Stunk Rocker, by Rave Up Records.

Chester retired from public performance in 1981. An anti-social curmudgeon and cynical poet, Chester occasionally records himself and other artists in his own studio, Spleen Venting Studios. At a time in life when many people begin to experience memory loss and confusion, Chester is ahead of his time. He often thinks that it''s still 1978.

Energized by the critical acclaim of Stunk Rocker, Chester got off his lazy carcass and recorded this set of new original Stunk Rock songs. Chester Vomit’s current Dry Heaves, featuring the guitar mayhem of Pat Attack, the brutalizing battering of drummer Buddy Retch, and volcanic vocalizing of guest star The State of Kate, are the hottest unit to come out of Chicago since Bob Trendler and His Big Top Band.

Are we crazy for saying out loud that The Stud of Stunk Rock, Chester Vomit’s, new CD, Machete in the Garden, is the 21st Century’s first truly great Rock and Roll album? Of course we are. But listen to it loud before you say we’re crazy for THINKING that it could be. Do you like melodic ballads, smooth harmonies and Classic Rock arrangements? Then GET OUT! WE DON’T WANT YOUR KIND HERE! This is an album that begs – no, DEMANDS to be played loud. An album that’s accessible, but not a disappointment when reading the lyric sheets. Punk songs that you’re glad last more than two minutes. When was the last time you heard ten slashing guitar solos on the same album? Other than perhaps Slash’s new album. An album that makes you think, yet is still gushing with FUN. If this CD were a book, the critics would call it “an easy read, yet insightful and informative.”

So it’s not The 21st Century’s first truly great Rock and Roll album? Prove us wrong. It’s right here. Listen to it, multiple times, loud. Pogo to it, mosh to it, sing with it, air guitar to it, vomit to it. Play it for your friends. Ask them. Never mind that, forget your friends, THINK FOR YOURSELF! TELL them it’s great.

And then when your friends tell you, “That album really Stunk,” you can reply, “Yes it is. It’s really, genuinely, Stunk Rock.”
