Recorded in only 12 hours in the guest house of a friend and engineer, This 10 track album tells the story of love, hope, lust, pain, devastation, and ultimately heartbreak. Seeds and The Soil''s mastermind Zachary Kibbee played nearly the entire record in "motown fashion" doing most everything in a single take and on the first take. The guitars, recorded in the bathroom of the guest house, have a tone that is both twangy and raw, but also beautiful and organic. The simple melodies and heartfelt lyrics tell a beautiful story of two young kids in love, lust, pain, and agony. The album was recorded in a way such like Bon Iver''s "For Emma, Forever Ago" where the vocals, guitars, and drums are overdubbed numerous times to give it a different sound to the clanky record. The album was recorded entirely with guitar, a simple 2-piece drum set with cymbals, and voice. The unique violin-like sound heard on several of the tracks is the work of the scarcely used E-bow on an acoustic guitar. use of room-mics and far-placed mics help give the recording a "retro" sound and vibe.
"Jane (working title)" is a concept about the flow of emotions and actions during the course of a beautiful but ultimately devastating relationship. The beautiful and painful story is told unconventionally in reverse order. There are numerous points of foreshadowing and secret themes throughout the record that tie each song together as if they were chapters of a tragic romance novel. This album, is the first work of Seeds and The Soil.
