Details:
Follow The Van, or Don’t Dilly Dally, was written by Charles Collins (1874 -1923) and Fred W. Leigh (1870 -1924) in 1919. It was made popular by English Music Hall Comedienne Marie Lloyd and remains one of my personal favorites.
I recorded this arrangement (Zeleznak/Antalova) in Slovakia in February 2008, and added further “virtual” embellishments via Canada nearly three years later. The musicians on this recording are Milos Zeleznak on guitar, banjo and mandolin; Peter Oberlander on double bass; Angelika Antalova on vocals (without a Cockney accent!) and kazoo; and Ted Tosoff on percussion, SFX and backing vocals.
This recording is dedicated to the memory of Harold Brookstone, who lived in London.
