Details:
The red velvet curtain is finally lifted on the long-awaited epic cabaret experience of Amanda Mabro''s stunning debut project "Superwoman in the Making". After years of playing the Canadian venue circuit, Mabro and her Cabaret Band have come into their own in a way even they never saw coming. The band''s unique sound has grown immensely from the jazz-pop trio they once were, having had many eyeopening collaborations with a thoroughly diverse roster of musicians.

Born and raised in Montreal, Mabro was admitted to New York''s AMDA with a scholarship in 1999. Despite her love of New York City, she decided to stay in Montreal when she met her now long time friend and co-writer Cozmos Quazar. Around the same time, she also won the FACTOR demo award, giving her even more reason to remain in Montreal and explore writing her own music. Mabro and the cabaret band began gigging in 2000 with a thick bluesy sound that thundered behind Amanda''s slick, powerful vocal garnering audiences'' attention. Admittedly, the band realized something was missing.

When Amanda first joined forces with local indie-folk artist Cozmos Quazar, the possibilities for genre-blending seemed to supersede what a piano/vocal duo could achieve. Quazar then introduced longtime collaborator Patrick Rizzetto to the project bringing both his unique drumming skills and his sense of structure and performance to help balance the virtually incessant genre bending. The next step was to include Andre Zarbo, a multi-instrumentalist who shared the same classical guitar mentor as Quazar, and had him alternating between bass and guitar.

The name and sound attributed to the cabaret band however, only came into effect with the addition of aspiring jazz bassist Chris Krajewski whose presence allowed Quazar and Zarbo to solidify their roles as the piano player and guitarist of the group, respectively. Despite intermittent appearances by several brass players (including Amanda''s cousin Lucy Ayoub who lent her trumpet playing skills to the One Fine Man single) the next big addition to the then 6 piece band came with four strings, a bow and a long heritage. An eighth generation gypsy violin player from Hungary, Istvan "Steve" Lakatos wowed the band with his tremendous talent and prowess making him a recurring character in both live and recorded performances. In the wake of Chris Krajewski''s departure from the group, the band enlisted the services of Nicholas Damato, bassist for New York''s Popa Chubby band and solo artist.

Another musician who has had a very large influence on the band is world-renowned jazz pianist and solo artist Matt Herskowitz. He and Amanda had performed together on some improvised jazz standards at a club in Montreal and formed a bond as artists. In fact, Amanda received one of her biggest opportunities when Matt was asked to suggest a local singer to perform at the Bell Center at a benefit concert (including performers like Celine Dion and Luck Mervil) following the September 11th terrorist attacks. Matt also makes an appearance on "Superwoman in the Making" with "Carte Blanche", a stunning improvised bonus track.

All of these ideas and influences have merged and grown to form the new Cabaret Band sound; a dynamic, swing-dancing, heel-kicking, vaudevillian extravaganza on a beachfront stage with a view of the ocean.

"Rigid jazz purists and Michael Buble fans may not approve...Mabro has molded a unique sound that''s steeped in tradition and topped with modern texture and sass."
