Although it is much easier said than done and the risks can escalate during an attempt to leave, the rewards and benefits to women and their children after ending an unhealthy relationship are immeasurable. According to the CDC Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System Survey 2005, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men in the United States are victims of domestic violence at some point in their lives. This is also a world wide epidemic, with 1 out of 3 women around the world having been beaten or otherwise abused during her lifetime.
