Bob Bockrath and bassist Ben Swenson formed These Trees, during the summer of 2004 in the Long Beach area. Germinating from Bobs catalogue of original songs These Trees grew into a quartet, adding keyboardist Greg DAmico and drummer Steve Tapia, within a few months after forming. These Trees can be found around town playing local venues mostly in Long beach and sometimes in La or the OC. The music they perform can be described as a sonorous merger of folk rock and electronica; charged with innovative and catchy melodies reminiscent of those present in the music of a few of the bands main influences: The Flaming Lips,grandaddy, Sparklehorse, and Wilco. In the summer of 2005 the band finished their self-produced, full-length debut, Electronic Simulation. This album features musical contributions from such talented artists, like: Peter Distefano (Porno For Pyros, Hellride, Peter Murphy); Paul Larson (Strictly Ballroom, Dntel, Athalia); and Ian H. Gibson (apprentice to renowned television and film composer Russ Landau). These Trees have recorded their second album (Ring Around the Moon) at Jim Putnam''s (Radar Bros) studio (SkyLab phase 4) on 2" tape. Its currently being mixed by Bob and should probably be done by the end of a month coming soon.
