Details:
Throwback Blue is a three member band consisting of guitar/vocalist, Brian Griego; drums, Andrew Greenstein; and bass guitar, Chris Colburn.
Brian Griego:
Brian has been desperately trying to feed his addiction to music ever since he was strapped to a car seat at the age of two, kicking and swinging his arms to the tunes from the tape deck, as his father claims. He was born in Northern California but jams down south now where the sun keeps him filled to the brim as he rushes through life. Most of his music went from pen to pad during the day but became songs under the dark of night--some are almost seven years old, but each song is constantly evolving and being refined. He’ll look to damn near anything for inspiration, and a lot of the music that you listen to has probably had an influence on him. The artists that comprise his collection are the noticeably influential Sublime, Dave Matthews Band, Incubus, Third Eye Blind, Red Hot Chili Peppers, 311 … but the beats that get him excited come by way of Common, ?uestlove, A Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde, Slum Village, especially the late J Dilla, Binary Star, Pharoahe Monch; the soul of John Lee Hooker, Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, Sly and the Family Stone, Al Green, Billie Holiday, Muddy Waters; the adrenaline behind the riffs of Rage Against the Machine --> Audioslave, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, The Smashing Pumpkins; the melodies of NOFX, Bad Religion, Millencolin, Pennywise, Bracket; the jams of Phish, Allman Brothers, Jethro Tull, Robin Trower, Béla Fleck & Victor Wooten; the smooth, soulful solos of Sonny Rollins, Coltrane, Charlie Hunter, Dave Holland Quintet, Dexter Gordon; the avant garde spirit of The Mars Volta, Pink Floyd, Beck; the raw guitar chops of Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix, Clapton and Cream, Slash and G&R, Tim Reynolds; the songwriting of Peter Gabriel, Van Morrison, Cat Stevens, new guys like Gavin DeGraw, Citizen Cope, John Legend; even the simple, haunting pieces by Chopin, Eric Satie, Debussy … and all this isn’t even the half of it. It’s all this that has him working to hone his skills on the saxophone, the guitar, and trying to sing.
Andrew Greenstein:
His first instrument was the trumpet...because he was too afraid to ask his mom if he could play the drums. A year later he sacked up and asked...and she was more than thrilled to entertain this endeavor. Ten years later he has professionally studied percussion in Pep Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz, Drumline, Rock, and Percussion Ensemble. Andrew continues to strive towards his goal of ruling the drum world as the beat locomotive.
Chris Colburn
Colburn is an experienced bassist who has also performed at the highest level as a celloist in the distinguised Mountain View Orchestra and has also served as the section leader of the Mountain View Marching Band Pit. He later proved his skills in the nationally renownded Vanguard Drum and Bugle Core as an auxiliary percussionist. This is his second band with Brian and Andrew, but the first that has shown dedication and promise.
