These days I bill myself as a folk-jazz-blues singer-songwriter, which I explain more fully on my website. What it essentially means is that I''ve had a diversified music career that has included lots of folk-blues and Dixieland jazz gigs, with a little rock-and-roll thrown in here and there. And, aside from the interruptions of having to earn a living with day jobs, I''ve been at it since the mid-60s.
As I write this, I''m sitting in my new, 6-month-old, home studio. I say "new" because I have finally evolved from the 4-track era to the new and amazing world of the digital-audio workstation (Darwin would be proud of me!). This pretty much gives me full control over recording and producing my performances in what I like the call "the indie sound," which allows me to avoid much of the electronic wizardry that provides the polish and shine produced by the major record labels. I prefer this approach because I think leaving the edges a little rough, but not harsh or brittle, provides a more realistic musical experience for the listener. Like "Hey! I''m hearing this guy pound out his songs and it sounds real."
I hope to next present my 1989 folk-jazz-blues Wharf Rats album (it''s cool), some new original songs, some cover songs, and possibly some 4-track recordings from 2002-06 that fit into the folk-jazz-blues category. Stay tuned!
