Details:
Hale Hale are rock and roll, cast from the frigid winters and too-short summers of Edmonton, AB. In every song they play there lays a frenetic energy, a blistering urgency, an uneasy calm that’s says there’s only one way to stay warm when it’s cold, and only one way to live when it’s not. As a review in SEE magazine protests, “They make music in the true rock-and-roll tradition: catchy as a cold, totally rump-shakeable, and just loud and sloppy enough to be dangerous” (Josh Marcellin).
In an era of genre-mashing and constantly-pushed musical boundaries, Hale Hale isn’t afraid to say, “We play rock and roll, plain and simple.” They believe there will always be original veins to mine within the rock realm. Vocalist/rhythm guitarist Scott Steele, lead guitarist Evan Tardiff, drummer Trevor Neary, and bassist Luke Osbaldeston are bound by the desire to create truly original, intelligent, and honest rock music.
And it’s this desire, filtered through their varied influences—from Queens of the Stone Age to Muse, from Mastodon to Modest Mouse—that shapes the sound of their latest EP “Spearmint”. The five-song EP is available at all their live shows, or it can be purchased online at https://www.tradebit.com
The past two years have seen Hale Hale self-finance as many EPs—2010’s “Hale Hale” and 2011’s “Spearmint”—and unleash their roaring live set all across Edmonton, including gigs at Haven Social Club, Likwid Lounge, and The Starlite Room. In the summer 2011, Hale Hale plan on shaking the confines of the Edmonton scene—for a while, at least—as they’ll travel to Lac la Biche supporting Sam Roberts and The Trews. And they’ll use this show to launch their own tour across the Rockies and back.
The fall of 2011 will see them return to Edmonton. And whether they continue to support “Spearmint” blasting through a raucous set at Filthy McNasty’s or The Pawn Shop, or whether they roll down to Beta Sound to record a follow-up EP, one thing is certain. Hale Hale is leaving the garage in their rearview mirror.
