Details:
Composer Eugene Magalif (b. 1957, Vitebsk, Belarus), has lived in the USA since 1990. He graduated from Vitebsk Music College and Belarusian State Conservatory (Academy of Music). During the years in Belarus, E. Magalif became well-known for his pop-songs. Many of them were recorded by famous singers and orchestras from the countries of the former USSR and featured on Radio and TV. Seven of his songs hit Top 10 in the Belarusian Hit-Parade, and 12 of the songs were accepted into USSR Radio fund in Moscow and were delivered to Radio stations of all the former Soviet Republics. As of today, his songs are performed in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Czech Republic («Radio Liberty/Free Europe»), Lithuania, France, and Israel.
Eugene Magalif is the author of the musical «SWINEHERD», cantata «BARMALEY», music for Theater, Radio and TV, instrumental pieces, Christian music for the choir, and popular songs and ballads.
Most of E. Magalif’s works are not too long, and the style of his music has the influences of Baroque music and pop-music; some of his favorite composers are Vivaldi, Mozart, C. Frank, A.L. Webber and Karl Jenkins. So, one can describe the style of the music as combination of classical and pop-music, or so called modern classical, or sympho-pop.
In 2009 his FAIRY TALE, Fantasie for Piano and Symphony Orchestra, was performed successfully in Poland. Future performances of FAIRY TALE are scheduled with the Belarusian State Symphony; US Symphony Orchestras in Saint-Luis, Lafayette, Colorado; Russian Orchestras in Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Makhachkala etc.
Maestro Yuri Temirkanov , Chief Conductor of the St. Petersburg State Philharmonic Orchestra, wrote that Eugene Magalif’s music is “delightful, first of all in its professionalism, as well as quite amusing and witty.”
Magalif’s sacred choral music got an excellent response from one of the hierarchs of Belarusian Church: « Dear Mr. Magalif, your music, no doubt, is a new word in Russian Orthodox music» (from the letter of Archimandrite Ioasaf, Rector of Belarusian Orthodox Seminary and Academy)
E. Magalif was a jury member in several competitions in Belarus. In 2008 and 2010 he was an honored guest at the International Festival «Slavyansky Bazar» in Vitebsk, Belarus. As a pianist, Mr. Magalif gave concerts in different states of the USA, including a performance in the United Nations. Composer E. Magalif lives in New Jersey, and teaches music to high-school students.
